Radical Middle East Cup 2014/15. The third Round. Losail International Circuit in Qatar. Race one. This is a very high-speed track, very well surfaced. During the official practice, on the asphalt hot under the generous Qatar sun, we managed to come in third. However, toward the evening, when the sun disappeared below the horizon, the asphalt surface became remarkably cooler and heavy dampness hung over the circuit. The qualification was held in very bright lightning of high quality.
Against this background we had to adjust our car settings to try and keep the grip. But I was unable to adapt to them during the qualification, moreover, I got into the traffic on the race track. As a result, I took the fourth place. The first race started at 21:00. That meant that the asphalt will cool down completely, and the humidity will be even higher...from the very start I managed to “hang onto” the three leaders: Ollie Smith, Romain Lutter and Tarek Elgammal.
By the middle of the race, the four of us were well ahead of the rest of the pelot. After the mandatory pit stop, Tarek’s co-driver lost the control of his car and stopped in the gravel trap. As for me, I fought with Ludovic Laffreda, Romain’s partner, but he made a mistake on the turn and I came in second. This was the end of the first race of the third round for us. There is another racing day in front of us and we keep our hopes high.
