The Third Victory of Syzran Racing Team at the Moscow Raceway
August 6, 2013 The fourth stage of the VAZ monocup LADA Granta Cup 2013 was held at the Moscow Raceway track last weekend as a support race for the first Rissian stage of the German touring car racing series DTM. 12 teams fought for honours in the Russian Cup event, including the classification leaders Dmitry Bragin and Maxim Simonov from the Syzran Racing Team and Nikita Misyulya from the young Samara team «MIR-CSKA» performing alone. Jumping slightly ahead, the series leaders confirmed the high level of their claims and maintained the leading positions in the National Cup ratings.
The main heroes of the Saturday race were the AutoVAZ-PROO team representatives Pavel Kalmanovich and Alexandr Kobenko, who claimed their first victory in the 2013 season. The pole start earned by Kalmanovich in the two qualifications guaranteed him his victory. Pavel took the start first and after resisting Dmitry Bragin’s attacks he maintained the leading position until the mandatory pit stop. Kobenko replaced him behind the wheel of Granta #17 and, having a comfortable 10-second lead over the nearest competitior, managed to maintain it and brought the race to victory.
Meanwhile, deep passions were boiling behind the leaders’ backs. Syzran Racing team Bragin/Simonov lost the second position on the pit stop because of the “time” handicap rule, and this place was occupied by another VAZ team driver Alexey Chaban. Later Pavel Aleshin from Sberbank Leasing team replaced Chaban on the position of the leaders’ main pursuer and, eventually, Nikita Misyulya managed to wrest the bronze medal from Chaban in the nick of time, becoming the third leader.
The third place in the first race of the Moscow stage allowed Misyulya to regain his first position in the interim classification.
The pole start in the Sunday race should have helped the Samara driver to consolidate his leadership in the Russian Cup, and 10 minutes after the start when Misyulya gained a lead, it seemed like he would win. But everything changed after the pit stop where the young sensation lost leadership due to the “time” handicap and moved down to the fourth position.
Rustam Akiniyazov from Aeroexpress Racing took the lead and maintained this position up to the last lap. Right before the finish Dmitry Bragin made a final effort to gain victory. The Tolyatti driver overtook the Moscovite and claimed the third victory regaining the leadership in the Lada Granta Cup 2013 classification for his team. The third place went to the second Syzran Racing team Mikhail Mityayev/Sergey Shalunov.
